Day 54: Celebrating my Dad!
I know that Thursday was my dad's actual birthday, but today we got together as a family for supper. This included his one sister and her family, and my moms brother. It was, once again, an amazing supper put on by the love of his life, my mom!So I decided that today, would be top 5 memories of my dad (I know there are way more, but do want to get some sleep so I will narrow it down to 5)
1. Sitting on the stairs to our basement when I was younger eating oysters. Why on the stairs you ask? Mom hates seafood anything...this includes oysters. So dad and I would spare her!
2. In grade 3 and 4 we had a note book at school that weekly we had to write our parents and they would write us back. It was always so special to me when dad would take the time and write in it to me.
3. Many, many hours sitting in the combine with dad. One particular memory is singing 'Oh Canada' every time we seen the flag that was up on a oil site. I am sure dad was sick of it...but he was a trooper!
4. Family trips...My brother and sister will remember this (you thought I was going to bring up the Edmonton trip...didn't you?!?) but if one of us was acting up...or getting a little annoying...which was never me...lol..his hand would somehow find our knee and he knew right where to squeeze that would make you sit still.
5. Dad has always been hero...and will continue to be. There are many moments that his has been true for. One we just talked about the other day was when I went to mow my grass at my old place...and what did I see...a dead bird! I was not touching the thing. And I wasn't going to finish mowing grass. Dad came into town and got rid of the bird for me. This doesn't count all the locked keys, house fixing, or shovelling he has done for me.
So as you can read, my dad, he is pretty amazing man. I am truly blessed that God gave me the parents that he did. Through all my lives ups and downs...they have stood firm beside me. Praying and loving me.
Thank you dad for being you!!
**On a side note, I have hit year end with work...so this blog will continue once that craziness is over. I will say it will be about a 3 week break...I vote sleep vs blogging at this point :)
